Man faces court charged with assaulting WA policeman

A man accused of assaulting a police officer, who reportedly suffered a broken jaw, has faced court from his hospital bed.

Neil Graham Cahill, 52, has been charged with assaulting the policeman outside The Breakwater at Hillarys Boat Harbour in Perth on Saturday night.

“It will be alleged about 8.50pm a police officer, who was on duty at the time and attending to another male, was approached by the 52-year-old male and assaulted,” police said in a statement on Sunday.

“The 44-year-old male police officer received head injuries and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.”

Mr Cahill, from Hocking, briefly faced Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday via audio link.

He did not make a bail application and the matter was adjourned until Tuesday.
